The 2025 Singing Bands’ Conference of the North American Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches was hosted by Christ the King Church in Maryland. The conference was attended by members of the various local branches, which included Emmanuel Presbyterian Reformed Church, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Bethel Presbyterian Church, Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, and UGCC. It was held for three days on the conference theme MONTO DWOM PA M’AGYENKWA adopted from the Presbyterian Hymnal 3.

In the Presidential address, the Union of Ghanaian Churches Singing Bands, North America highlighted the key achievements and challenges of the Union and gave some recommendations for the continued growth and development of the Union, and did not miss words by thanking and appreciating the following executives and members of the Union
Maxwell Brempong President
Eunice Ofori, Vice President

Glyadys Kumi Vice President Canada
Jennifer Amoah, National Secretary
Michael Djan
Joyce Boateng
Esther Frimpong
Kenneth Owusu

Mr. Ofosuhene, Conference Music Director
Mr. Gyasi, Assistant Music Director
Narrating the history and formation of the Union, the President elaborated on the following
Nine years ago, we were honored to lead this remarkable group. At the time, our union
comprised fewer than 70 members. While we had immense potential, we recognized the need for
reorganization to enhance our effectiveness and cultivate a sense of unity throughout all sectors
of our union, especially among our members in the USA and Canada.
Over the years, we have worked diligently to achieve these goals, growing in numbers and
influence.
Today, we stand firm as a vibrant, diverse, and thriving band, with a membership of more than
164 individuals, with a reported increase in membership across each chapter.
Growth and Achievements
As mentioned earlier, one of the most significant achievements during our time as executives has been the growth of

our membership. From less than 70 members, we have now grown to more
than 164 dedicated individuals. This increase in membership has enriched the band, allowing us
to diversify our performances and enhance our presence within the community.
In addition to growth, we have successfully organized annual conferences each year, except for
the two COVID years when the global pandemic forced us to pause our in-person events. These
conferences have become a cornerstone of our union, providing an opportunity for networking,
learning, and spiritual enrichment. Despite the pandemic, we adapted, hosting virtual events to
stay connected and maintaining the bond we share as a community.
We have also been able to extend our support beyond the performances and conferences. The
Singing Band Group has been a source of strength for sister churches, particularly during times
of sorrow. We have supported numerous churches in times of grief, offering music, prayers, and
comfort during funerals. Additionally, we have participated in celebrations such as anniversaries,
using our talents to uplift and bring joy to our fellow believers.
Challenges and Unaccomplished Goals
While we have seen great successes, there are a few goals that remain unfulfilled and warrant
attention as we move forward:
1. Alternating the Presidency Between the USA and Canada: One key issue that needs
immediate attention is our Canadian chapters’ desire to alternate the presidency between
our USA and Canadian members to ensure more equitable representation across both
countries and foster a greater sense of unity and cooperation. Unfortunately, this goal has
not yet been fully realized, and it remains a priority for future leadership.
2. Canadian Churches Paying in Canadian Dollars for USA Conferences: Another goal
is to revisit and formalize an arrangement where Canadian churches contribute to the
costs of attending USA conferences in Canadian dollars. This adjustment may ease
financial burdens for our Canadian members and help streamline the process of
organizing cross-border events. While the idea has been discussed and partially approved,
members have requested to revisit the issue and finalize it for implementation.
3. Constitutional Amendments: Several constitutional amendments need
immediate attention to ensure that the group continues to evolve and move forward.
These amendments are crucial for clarifying roles, responsibilities, and processes within
the Union, and their prompt consideration, is essential for the long-term sustainability of
the group.
Recommendations for Moving Forward
As we reflect on the past eight years, it is clear that there are areas where we can continue to
improve. We propose the following recommendations to help the group grow and adapt:
1. Create a Year-Round Communication Platform: While our annual conferences are a
key event for the group, creating a platform and programs that allow us to stay in touch
and involved year-round is important. This would enable us to engage in more frequent
discussions, share updates, and provide opportunities for collaboration. Such a virtual
platform would help strengthen the bond between members, even when we’re not
meeting in person.
2. Focus on Constitutional Updates: The necessary constitutional amendments should be
prioritized to ensure the group’s operational structure is effective and efficient. This
would help address gaps in leadership roles, membership processes, and cross-border
collaboration.
3. Address Financial Contributions Across Borders: It is important to revisit the idea of
having Canadian churches pay in Canadian dollars when attending USA conferences. An
agreement of this financial arrangement by all chapters would ensure better financial
coordination.
4. The union has certainly made a significant effort in recruiting young adults to its ranks,
recognizing that the organization’s future depends on engaging and mobilizing the next
generation of members. This initiative is crucial for ensuring the union’s longevity and
vibrancy.
5. Recognition of Previous Leadership
I would like to take a moment to recognize the leadership that preceded us. Their hard
work, vision, and commitment laid the groundwork for the successes we enjoy today. The
contributions of the founding leaders have paved the way for the growth and
development of this union, and their legacy continues to inspire us. We honour them for
their service and thank them for the foundation they built, which has allowed us to
expand our influence further and reach. They are in the persons of:
1. Kwame Gyamere
2. Rev. Francis
3. DR. Assinor
4. Nana Osei Nyarko
5. Sophia Young
Rev. Dr. Ofosuhene Patron
It is essential to give credit where it is due. The Union however, acknowledged Elder Danial Ogyiri, whose immense support for the Union could not be overlooked
Thanks to every member of this Union for your unwavering support and commitment over the
years. The future of this group is bright, and we are excited to see where the next chapter of our
journey takes us.
Ebenezer, this is how far the lord has brought us!
